Lisa M. Knight

Ms. Knight, founder of Knight Law Services, is a registered patent attorney. She has drafted and prosecuted numerous patent applications that involve mechanical, electro-mechanical, optics-related and computer-related technologies. In addition to prosecuting patent applications, Ms. Knight has prosecuted applications for a variety of trademarks. As a patent litigator, Ms. Knight has experience working on a variety of large patent cases that involve patented technologies owned by Fortune 500 computer hardware and software manufacturers and telecommunication companies.

Ms. Knight specializes in patent application preparation and prosecution, trademark application preparation and registration, copyright counseling and registration, as well as intellectual property licensing. She counsels clients on patent, trademark and copyright enforcement and defense matters. As part of her practice, Ms. Knight also provides opinions that relate to invention novelty, patent infringement, patent invalidity and trademark registration. Ms. Knight advises clients on intellectual property matters that relate to mergers or acquisitions and performs due diligence to assess the strength of a target company’s intellectual property portfolio.

Ms. Knight is a 1997 graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law. She also holds Master of Science degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Engineering Management from the California State University at Northridge, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology. Ms. Knight is admitted to practice in New York and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Ms. Knight is a member of the New York State Bar Association Intellectual Property Committee, the New York County Lawyers Association and the New York Intellectual Property Lawyers Association.

Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Ms. Knight was a law clerk for the Federal Trade Commission where she specialized in analyzing Internet fraud and false advertising issues. Ms. Knight also has extensive engineering experience. She was a Member of the Technical Staff for a major defense contractor, in the Missiles Systems Division. As a member of the Technical Staff, Ms. Knight specialized in the design, test and system integration of digital electronic circuitry for the guidance units of several Strategic Defense Initiative missile systems. As a graduate student, Ms. Knight was selected as a National Science Foundation Fellow and was sponsored to conduct research in the area of FIR filter design and was the recipient of the California State Pre-Doctorial Scholarship. After working as an electrical systems design engineer, Ms. Knight was a management consultant. As a consultant, Ms. Knight successfully advised major corporations on productivity enhancement and cost reduction techniques.
